Tell BC to Invest in the Coastal Marine Strategy
Last year, the Government of BC took great strides towards protecting the coast by releasing its first-ever Coastal Marine Strategy.
The BC Coastal Marine Strategy is an intersectional plan aiming to boost biodiversity, tackle marine pollution, and recover nearshore habitats with nature-based solutions – all the while advancing Indigenous coastal management, building up resilience to climate change, and working to revitalize coastal communities and economies.
Now, we must ensure the strategy doesn’t simply turn into another policy document that sits on a shelf.
To succeed, the Coastal Marine Strategy needs:
- Adequate and sustained funding to launch vital projects as implementation begins in 2026;
- A legal framework to make sure the strategy’s goals are long-lasting, prioritized, and protected from political changes
Stand up for the coast by sending a letter to the Honourable David Eby, Premier, and the Honorable Randene Neill, Minister of Water, Land, and Resource Stewardship, letting them know that you want to see BC’s Coastal Marine Strategy funded and enshrined into law.
