British Columbia released its long-anticipated Coastal Marine Strategy last summer, and is currently planning its implementation. The Strategy is an overarching policy framework for managing coastal and marine issues, listing 116 specific activities aimed at advancing its themes of a healthy coast, resilience to climate change, thriving coastal economies and communities, and informed governance.

We know that this strategy has a large scope! It can be daunting to think about all the complicated and intertwined issues at play on the coast, so we’ve created 5 case studies to understand how this strategy can address your top ocean-related concerns.

Today, the Association of Vancouver Island and Coastal Communities passed a resolution calling on the Province to legislate the BC Coastal Marine Strategy.

Tonight, the District of Saanich and City of Langford Councils voted unanimously in favour of the province enshrining its Coastal Marine Strategy into law.

The Government of BC just released its first Coastal Marine Strategy, setting a new and promising course for the BC coast. Implementation of the new Strategy will be co-managed by the Province and First Nations to effectively conserve and manage coastal regions over the long-term in coordination with federal, and local governments.
